Could just be me, but I think the design is perfect. Apple is still way ahead of the competition with the unibody design. How much better can it get?
I think the design is perfect too - although Apple always seems to take a seemingly perfect design and add to it. I'm excited at the thought of a new design, mainly because I can't imagine what they could possibly improve.

I'm hoping for a MBP. It'll be my first Mac. My son just started college and we were going to buy him a Mac Mini. Then I heard about new imacs coming and waited it out and I found that to be a better value than a mac mini. Well he just got it a week ago and it's great! Now I've decided to switch from Windows to Mac and will get a MBP but am waiting for the next generation. I was disappointed it didn't come last week but maybe the 24th. Isn't it unusual for Apple to have something like this on a Sunday? I hear so much about Tuesdays but as other's have said maybe the 19th. I've heard estimates of as late as January becuase of a meron shortage. I can't wait that long to switch to Mac! :)
Extemly likely it will be updated by end of the month at the latests. More than likely before 9/25. Not too worried about the numbers, Intel should have Apple in the prefered list and Apple not likely to expect to sell more than 1/2 mil of them, so they prob have plenty of chips. Likely it may have memry card reader, Meron, no latch, new gen chip for wireless (pre-n). Im not a Pro photographer, but anything that helps the photographer like better way to import or export photos and make life easier for them. All plus for you and me also. BTW welcome to the Family.

Reading is really fundamental considering the fact that you can't even read two paragraphs worth of an article you posted:
"These two, combined with SLI, they will let you play something like Far Cry at a ludicrous 2160p resolution."

http://www.v3.co.uk/v3-uk/news/2040733/nvidia-launches-entry-level-quadro-400-graphics-professionals
Nvidia has introduced an entry-level model to its Quadro line of graphics adapters aimed at professionals such as designers and engineers.
Available immediately, the Quadro 400 costs just 99 but provides up to five times the performance of a high-end gaming card, or up to 10 times when running CAD/CAM applications, according to Nvidia.
The Quadro 400 contains 48 Cuda GPU compute cores combined with 512MB of DDR3 memory, and supports DVI-I and DisplayPort outputs offering resolutions up to 3,840 x 2,400 and 2,560 x 1,600 respectively.
Using Nvidia's Mosaic Technology, users can enjoy a workspace across up to eight displays by using four of the cards each driving two screens, enabling seamless taskbar spanning and transparent scaling of any application.
Nvidia said its Quadro 400 drivers are optimised and certified for leading professional applications.
"The Quadro 400 is the right tool to help ensure that the job gets done the right way, especially when it comes to running apps like AutoCAD," said Jeff Brown, general manager of Nvidia's Professional Solutions Group.
The new Quadro adapter is available immediately via Nvidia's reseller channels, and also with Fujitsu Celsius workstations and HP's Z800, Z600, and Z400 workstations. Nvidia said it will also be available later this month on select Lenovo ThinkStation models.

iTunes is made by APPLE so of course its going to have application as the file names. Show a MS production that uses application as a term.
Again why cant MS just call is their MobileApp store? Adding mobile to the front of app would solve their problems no?
Or add WinApp Store. Why isnt MS doing that?
Its because they want to take a shot at apple, its the only small victory they can get since osx is better than windows, and of course the ipod is better than their joke of am mp3 player Zune.
That is MS Explorer calling the iTunes.exe file an Application. It has nothing to do with Apple. Anything ending in .exe will have the same description.
It's all irrelevant to the conversation though... we are discussing "App Store" not "Application."

there is no such thing as charity in america, it always comes through commerce. why not just donate the $200 bux? does a lot more than the 10 bux you are donating now, so you can justify getting a new ipod. hell i would buy a red ipod just cos of the color i don't see why the cos has to be associated with it, if they're gonna do this they might as well just donate 10% of all ipod sales. at least it does something more than haveing a "show off" recipet for your so called act of charity.
"Hi i'm bono, there's a huge aids problem in africa and people don't pay attention, heres a new ipod"
wtf.
Alright, what is a "bux", "cos", "haveing", and "recipet".
Perhaps you need to enroll in the ""The Derek Zoolander Center For Children Who Can't Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too"
The thing about this is that it allows Bono to use Apple and the iPod to bring further awareness to this cause.
And as far as your comment "there is no such thing as charity in america, it always comes through commerce. why not just donate the $200 bux?", give me a FU^K1ng break! I can name one american who has donated more money from their pocket this year alone than any other country in the world combined. And that's just one American. And let's not even talk about what percentage of the hard working American's tax dollars goes to foreign aid.
Granted it could be more in some areas (and less in many others), but don't make it look like we Americans are not charitable people.
I apoligize for getting off topic. Whether or not you like U2 /Bono or Apple, I don't see why it's necessary to knock people who are trying to make a difference, no matter how large or small it may be, at least they're trying.

Hopefully DWI checkpoints yield such low benefits from these apps that they become extinct although I doubt it. Hassling thousands of honest, sober citizens to catch the 1-2% legally intoxicated drivers isn't worth the price we all pay. I question our freedom in America each time I drive up to a checkpoint. If you're wondering, no I've never received a DWI nor driven intoxicated and I still hate these checkpoints. They don't make me feel safer on the road.

He means CUT and paste hence the caps. Not copy. i.e. The text you select is both deleted and copied to the clipboard. I use it a lot myself in Windows and do miss it in OSX. Also allows you to easily move files around by CUT and pasting them :D
Wow, I didnt even realize they took CUT away, I guess because I always use copy for text, as I rarely want it deleted. As far as using it for moving files, I don't use it because I always assumed, probably wrongly, that there was some file size limit or that it could affect performance when using it for large files (I mostly work with huge ProRes files. Maybe I think that because of old Photoshop error windows, when closing the application, saying clipboard failed to save due to size?
Actually what annoys me in SL to no end is lack of file size sorting in Finder search (CMD+F) and the changes to Finder search like not being able to select which disk you're searching. If there is a way please inform me!

I may have missed this being said already, but just in case...
Handing out flyers outside their booth area was just ONE problem, according to a Macworld article (http://www.macworld.co.uk/mac/news/index.cfm?newsid=16291&pagtype=allchandate). Here's an excerpt:
"There then followed a number of complaints about the behaviour of Greenpeace activists from four visitors and five exhibitors, one of which was Apple. Allegedly, Greenpeace attendees were invading other stands for mock photo shoots and replacing other exhibitors promotional material with their own."
So too bad Greenpeace, you pushed too far

I'm just a regular iPhone user...not a developer. I just want my phone work. And I want the apps to be fully vetted and tested before they are available for download. RA's action doesn't make me dislike the iPhone, Mac computers, or Apple. In fact, quite the opposite. It makes RA look childish. I say...good riddance. Oh, and I'm also now less likely to purchase other software from RA. Just sayin'
Then you're missing out. RA is a very highly regarded Mac developer.
And apple's actions here don't improve quality - they reduce it,

All those monthly bills add up. I'm glad I never bought an iPhone, for example, when they first came out. I've saved a ton of money not buying the required data plan that goes comes with it. I don't want to put words in your mouth but it sounds like our priorities are all wrong and I agree.
If you live in a city and are highly social then an iPhone might be a good thing for you personally. If you live in suburbia and have high transportation expenses, then you might not be able to afford it anyway.
Are you referring to the public-sector unions that workers must join and must pay dues to? Because Unions exist everywhere in just about every field. How would the recent push against public sector unions collective bargaining effect this private company? It seems IKEA has the power to mistreat its employees because they're desperate for work. They've even hired a firm to "convince" the workers not to unionize.
yes, but I'm looking for evidence that the workers are unable to unionize due to a law that the "right" has passed.
My statement was made with a broad brush, not a specific one.
Perhaps another way of getting my point across is to ask you to point out labor friendly laws that the Republicans have passed in the last 30 years.
I don't see what your point is...how does that respond to the person you quoted? He was saying people made bad choice due to keep oil and you say "I'm glad I didn't get an iPhone right away"
The price of gas living in suburbia is much more of a drain on a household then an extra 20 dollars for iPhone data. 20 bucks is nothing in a month of gas. And for the amount of usage iPhones often get(like in my case) it is well worth the money for many people.
Don't criticize people for making different choices then yourself
The point I was trying to make is that high commuting costs means people have to make tough choices about their discretionary spending.

Another spin on all of this is the fact they just get 100 million from apple and now they decided to spend mega bucks on it over here in the uk up untill reacently we hardly sore a advert for ipods or apple computers saw a lot of adds for creative zen but bugger all for ipods which is better i wonder ie market leader who dosnt push the advertising or the people who advertise a lot and still dont have a large market share ....
To put it politely theres to many fingers in this pie and end of the day i know which system i prefer i aint saying its apple and its ipod either :D
Putting 4 periods after a paragraph doesn't make up for no periods in the paragraph itself.

Let's ask yourself this.. they are saying that approx 1 in every 17 people now have a Windows based phone?? Do you know ANYONE that does?? Cause I know hundreds of people who have smartphones and not one of them has a Windows based phone.. major statistical failure!
They must be counting the old Windows Mobile 6.x devices too - a very shaky thing to count as definite wins for WP7 in the future. A lot of those old WP6 devices are corporate, and we all know that corporate phones are moving towards the iPhone or BlackBerry.

Why do I get the feeling that the people downvoting this are the same who were upvoting Amazon's service, despite Apple's service being "like Amazon's, except licensed from the labels"? Who wants to bet Amazon gets screwed when they go back to renegotiate their deal with the labels?
(Its like the people who were anti-patents, and downvoted news of Apple suing Samsung, but upvoted news of Samsung suing Apple for patents).

Call me spoiled by all things thin, I think the iMac is looking pretty chunky these days. Not sure why it isn't significantly thinner than it is. The next time they do update the form factor it should essentially look like a giant first gen iPad.
I see no end in itself in the iMac getting thinner. Performance is much more important to me. I think the form factor is fine today, and no, today we can't have both. I want a real computer, not a giant iPad.

How to make it a best seller:
Being a true smart phone, capable of booting Mac OS X mobile (to be released) and thus being used as a wireless computerless remote for Keynote and PowerPoint presentations made on Mac or Windows.
Will sell millions on corporate, education and domestic markets.
With a huge halo effect!!!
That was my thought as well. Just as they did with the iPod and consumer identification. They could make serious inroads in business by showing them how to do integration right while looking cool at the same time. Blackberries and Treos are an integral part of the business person's life right now and introducing a phone with those functions (done better of course) in a beautiful form could change a lot of perceptions about Apple in the business community.
Apple could change their marketshare dramatically by getting businesses to 'switch'. With the option of running XP on Macware, its no longer an impossibility. Steve has been able to anticipate the consumer market pretty well, maybe he could do the same in the business arena.

I'm confused. Movie downloads for $10?!? What happened to the whole "Jobs is hammered by the movie industry into movie rentals only" ?!? This CANNOT possibly mean renting a movie for $10!!
My bet is that it's low-res/iPod quality video for purchase. Apple/Steve Jobs have yet to get into the home theater business. So far it's been the mobile entertainment business only. Movie rentals (or purchase for that matter) at home theater quality is a whole other enchilada.
Watching 320x240 movie on my 42" plasma would sort of suck and not be competitive as others have metioned. Would I buy a $10 movie to watch on my iPod? mmm....probably a few to keep me entertained on the treadmill and my son entertained on roadtrips.
Rumors are rampant, but they do bring up a good point, as you do here. Who would want to watch a movie on an iPod? (Well, actually, I have and I do, but that's beside the point.)
The Appleinsider rumor at least makes sense from an itunes/tv/movie purchase standpoint. Renting would be sort of a PITA. Who would want to download a good quality movie, often taking hours or days, unless you have a lot of people torrenting at the same time, just to have it accessible for a week or so? Not me.
This will be a movie purchase service. You buy the movie, DL it from itunes, then do what you want to with it. Watch it on you computer, rip it to DVD and watch it on your TV, run it through an air tunes like device so you don't have to rip it if you don't want.
It sounds pretty interesting to me. We'll see when it happens. Regardless, the quality is going to have be pretty good for people to want to watch them on their TV's. Offering 700mb .avi rips just won't cut it.

Though, I still think they're coming on the 18th of sept.
That would be way behind everyone else, and also would prevent students from taking advantage of the free iPod Nano with a new computer. Also, if they want to catch the student market (like me) they need to update tomorrow, or at least on September 5. The shipments from asia are probably the best indicator of a release that we have seen to date. Apple would not leave "secret" massive shipments lying around unsold. There are over 150 Apple Stores worldwide, and there is no way there wont be some sort of security breach if hundreds of thousands of boxes are sitting around all around the world. I personally would probably find a way into the nearest Apple Store storage room to see what is in those boxes, though I proably wouldn't have to because an apple employee would blab first.

The 21.5" has thunderbolt too....does that mean you can use it as an external display as well? :-)
Likely not. The last 21.5 had Mini Display Port, and could not be used as an external monitor. Would be nice though.
